Do you paint after the patch?
Yes, and it is worth doing. A perfectly matched texture in the wrong sheen is still visible. Painting to the nearest corners is usually the difference.
My ceiling is stained from an old leak. Can that be fixed?
If the leak is genuinely fixed and the board is dry, yes — sealed, repaired and repainted. If it is still wet, that gets sorted first; painting over an active leak just hides it for a month.
