Welding & metal fab

Welding & metal fabrication in South Orange County

Custom metalwork most handymen can't offer.

This is the genuine difference between Dan and the next handyman on the list. Most sub metalwork out or turn it away, which turns a bent gate into two trades, three phone calls and a wait.

Dan fabricates and repairs on site. A gate that has dropped out of square gets cut, re-squared and re-welded where it hangs. A railing post rusted through at the base gets the rotten section removed and new steel let in, rather than a bracket screwed over the top of the problem.

Coastal metal is its own subject. Salt attacks fasteners and weld seams first, usually from the inside where nothing is visible until something moves. Repairs get cleaned back to sound metal and finished so the fix is not the next thing to fail.

A weld either holds or it does not, and the ones that fail are almost always the ones made over rust or paint. Preparation is invisible in the finished job and it is the entire reason it lasts.

Common questions

Can you weld on site, or does it have to come to a shop?

On site, in almost every case. That is the point — a gate or a railing gets fixed where it lives instead of being removed, transported and re-hung.

My gate drags and will not latch. Is that a weld?

Usually a combination: the frame has racked out of square and the hinges or post have moved. It gets re-squared and re-welded, and the post and hardware corrected, so it latches without being lifted.

Do you make custom pieces?

Yes — brackets, frames, supports and small custom gates. If you can describe it or sketch it, send a photo of the space and Dan will tell you whether it is worth fabricating or buying.
