This is the highest-value work in an older house, because it is cosmetic in cost and structural in how the room feels afterwards. A dated backsplash, a tired faucet, a builder-grade light fixture and yellowing switch plates can make a perfectly good kitchen feel a decade behind.
Tile is unforgiving: layout has to be set out before the first piece goes down, or you end up with a sliver cut in the most visible corner. Dan plans the layout so the cuts land where nobody looks, keeps the grout lines consistent, and seals what needs sealing.
Fixtures are quicker but not trivial — the failure mode is a slow leak inside a cabinet or a fitting cross-threaded into an old valve. Old shut-offs get checked before anything is opened up.

Common questions
Can you repair a few cracked tiles rather than redo the floor?
Often, yes — if you have spares or the tile is still available. Send a photo. Dan will tell you honestly if a patch will stand out badly enough that it is not worth doing.
Is regrouting worth it, or should the shower be redone?
If the tile is sound and the grout is just stained or crumbling at the surface, regrouting and recaulking transforms it for a fraction of the cost. If water has been getting behind the board, that is a different job and he will say so.
Do you do plumbing and electrical?
Like-for-like fixture swaps, yes — faucets, valve trim, fittings, light fixtures and fans. New circuits, re-piping and anything requiring a licensed contractor is not work Dan takes.
